In this blog post, we'll take a closer look at what urban farming is, the benefits of urban farming, and some of the most popular methods of urban farming.

What is Urban Farming?

Benefits of Urban Farming
  1. Fresh, Organic Produce: Urban farming provides access to fresh, organic produce that is grown locally and has a smaller carbon footprint than imported produce.
  2. Community Building: Urban farming brings people together and creates a sense of community. It allows people to connect with others who share similar interests and values.
  3. Health Benefits: Eating fresh, organic produce has numerous health benefits. Urban farming also provides a way for people to get outside and be active, which is essential for overall health and well-being.
  4. Environmental Benefits: Urban farming helps reduce the carbon footprint of food production and distribution. It also helps to reduce waste and water usage.
Popular Methods of Urban Farming
  1. Container Gardening: Container gardening is one of the most popular methods of urban farming. It involves growing plants in containers, such as pots or buckets, on balconies, rooftops, or windowsills.

The Sleeping Beauty of Loulan

The perfectly preserved mummy known as the Sleeping Beauty of Loulan is one of 200 mummies found in the Western Deserts of Xinjiang, in China. Though they eternally sleep, their startling looks are a source of mystery and controversy. These mummies show the diversity of ethnicity in the area, where the Uyghur people of the region still dispute ancient ownership with the ruling Chinese. Death on the Silk Road The Loulan Beauty died on the Silk Road, at a time when it was firmly believed no Caucasians had ever ventured that far. But she is clearly Caucasian, with her high cheekbones, high bridged nose and blonde hair. She died sometime in her 40s, and is still dressed in her red robes, her hair crisply braided in what was probably a very fashionable ’do 3800 years ago. In fact, for 3800 years old, she is remarkably well preserved. She was and is indeed a beauty, tall and stately, with finely carved features. Neither is she alone. She has for company another unearthed mummy ca...

One Pound Fish Man

One Pound Fish Man  Muhammad Shahid Nazir Are you tired of "Gangnam Style" just like Psy at this point? Need a new jam to get you moving? Do you happen to like very, very good and very, very cheap fish...? I'll admit, when I caught this one late last night, I was shocked. And I know I shouldn't, since this is the Internet after all. But still... have a, have a look at the music video for the singing "One Pound Fish Man" above.  The outrageous and very, very funny video was posted by YouTube user OnePoundFishManTV, and takes Internet-famous fish vendor, Muhammad Shahid Nazir, who sings about and sells fish in Queens Market, London, and puts him in the big-budget, music spotlight. I have to say, it's catchy and not bad at all. For those unfamiliar with the original video from 2011, I'm including it below.
